Touted during their South African tour as “Masters of the saxophone, impressing their listeners not only by brilliant virtuosity but equally by some of the most delicate sounds imaginable”, the award-winning Los Angeles-based Encore Saxophone Quartet is the only American chamber music group selected to perform at the prestigious 2019 Lansum International Music Festival.
Formed in 1984 by internationally renowned saxophonist Douglas Masek, the Encore Saxophone Quartet’s wide-ranging repertoire is grouped into exciting shows of familiar repertoire, such as The Legends of Hollywood and The Great American Songbook, or the more erudite Classic Sax and Jazz Sax, all which transport listeners on a gently educational musical journey that exhibits the many colorful possibilities encompassing the sound spectrum of the saxophone in a quartet setting. Or, for those who want to hear a little of everything, Encore Eclectic is the program for you!
In addition to Masek on soprano sax, the Quartet includes Ken Foerch on alto, David Brennan on tenor, and Damon Zick on Baritone saxophone- all are distinguished soloists and chamber music artists who perform nationally and internationally. In addition to performing, they are dedicated educators that have led master classes, clinics, coached chamber music, and mentor the next generation of emerging musical artists.
" ...a riveting declamation leaving the listeners dazed by the ensemble’s collective musicality, professionalism and cross-genre capabilities."
“...energetic and ethnically interesting 'Pamplona'..."
"The quartet performed in dazzling synchronicity to Bill Holcombe’s arrangement of Come Rain or Come Shine."
"Like a ringing bell, the notes sprung from Doug Masek’s horn, initiating Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Little” Fugue in G Minor!".
“Very professional, excellent ensemble to feature in any concert series as well as in outreach programs. The love and pride for their instruments and performing is very engaging. Thoughtful repertoire choice. Fun to watch and joy to listen.”
